1884 - August 19 - This date finds former Tombstone gambler and Earp supporter John Henry "Doc" Holliday in Colorado - and not doing well. After several years of hard-drinking and late-night carousing, exacerbating a severe case of tuberculosis, or "consumption" as the malady was then called, his health continues to deteriorate. He has a shooting affray with Billy Allen at Leadville, Colorado over a $5 loan. Holliday will be arrested, and then acquitted on the grounds of self-defense.
